Swimmer Joshua Baerg of BC is named Canadian Flagbearer at Closing Ceremony of the 23rd Summer Deafl
Joshua Baerg, a veteran member of the Deaf National Swimming Team, has been named Canada’s flagbearer for the closing ceremony of the 23rd Deaflympics. “I am thrilled to be representing Canada in this fashion,” said Baerg. “It is a great honour.” Baerg was a finalist in both the 100 and 200 metre breastroke and a key member of the 2 relay teams that set Canadian records during the Deaflympics swimming competition. “Josh is a great competitor and a real leader for Team Canada both in and out of the water”, said Deaf National Swimming Team Coach Judy Baker. “I am so proud to see him take on this role for Canada,” noted Baker. Baerg holds 4 individual Canadian deaf swimming records and was the 2016 Canadian Deaf Sports Association Athlete of the Year. Josh is also an active advocate for deaf athletes.
